Liaghat family is from Bani Kalid al-Mukhzmi al-Qurayshi tribes. The Bani khalid tribe is one of Quraysh tribes, which were called Bani al-Makhzum from the beginning and they became wellknown as Bani Khalid after the bravery and honors of Khalid-bin-Valid in early Islam.

 

The Bani Khalid tribe lived in Arabian Peninsula in Makka city and the region of al-Sharqiya, the city of Ahsa and al-Qatif. After the formation of Bani Khalid Emirate, which spread in many Arabian countries and during the time of Doihas bin al-Ariyar, who ruled Kuwait, some of them migrated to Kuwait from Arabia and setteled in surrounding areas (1785-1789). After that and between 1792 to  1796 , during the rule of Abdul Mohsen al-Sardah, some of them went to Iraq and then the moved to Khuzestan and surrounding areas and setteled in different parts of Khuzestan, including Shadegan and then Ramshir.

 

Karim bin Salman Khalidi nicknamed Karim al-Fantas (Fantas is a city in Kuwait), at the time of ruling Sheikh Khazal, ruled over Khuzestan as the ruler of Shakheh and Banneh (current Ghaizanieh) and surrounding villages.

 

Karim al-Fantas had 7 sons named:

1.Yar Allah

2.Mezban

3.Jabar

4.Alvan

5.Mehdi

6.Sultan

7.Azab

 

He appointed his eldest son, Yar Allah, as successor (current Ghaizanieh) and he himself migrated to surrounding of Ahvaz (current Seyed Khalaf village) and built a castle there which is known as Karim castle. At this time, differences arose between Karim Al-Fantas and Sheykh Khazal and Yar Allah, the Karim al-Fantas’ eldest son was killed accidently, he were imprisoned by Sheykh Khazal along with his two other children, Jabar and Alwan. After releasing he moved to Ameri district on former Liaghat street (current Nahj al-Balagheh) and setteled there.

 

Mezban, his second son worked in a garage in 24-meter street in Ahvaz as a garage supervisor and there was some trucks transporting. The other sons of Karim al-Fantas Jabar, Alwan and Mehdi also cooperated there and gradually increased the number of their transport fleet.

 

With the start of World War II and the occupation of Iran by the Allies, the imperial army took authority of trucks and used them to transfer troops and ammunition. In September 1941 and peak of the clashes, Mehdi, the fifth son of Karim al-Fantas along with one of the trucks went to Dashte-e-Abbas to transport ammunition. Unfortunately, the truck was bombarded by enemy fighter planes and Mehdi was killed. His brothers, Jabar and Alwan go to Dasht-e-Abbas district and Iraq to find Mehdi, which led to arresting Alwan by Iraqi forces and he was imprisoned in Iraq, but this searching was not successful and they can’t find his body even.

 

With the end of war and the return of relative stability to the country, Fantasi brothers decided to develop their work and added some more trucks to the fleet and worked more professionally and they chose the name Liaghat for their family.

 

In 1948 , they started to work with oil company and with the more development of their fleet, they became the largest transportation contracting company of oil company, as in 1954 they bought more than 4500 car and heavy vehicles and in all fields of transportation of oil company, including taxis, transportation of goods and petroleum material, water supply, etc throughout Khuzestan and oil-reach areas were working and during these years it has creates employment of more than 12000 people.

 

With the beginning of solar forties and the development of construction activities throughout the country, Liaghat family were working in other fields, including oil and gas pipelines, construction in Zeytoon and Kurush distract of Ahvaz (Liaghat street in Kurush, which was renamed to Iqbal street after the revolution), wharf construction, road construction, production of chemicals related to the oil industry, drilling of oil and oil walls and gradually built Liaghat Holding.

 

Among their works was the construction of the Astoria Hotel in Ahvaz (current Pars Hotel), by the Karoon rivern which was opened in 1974.
